This is a series of Paolo’s emails to me. Most of his letters depict life in the Philippines in a whimsical sort of way.
“carlos,
tahimik ata you
busy bee ?
dami work ?
are you ok ? are you alright ?
well, as for me
maulan na dito
pero sabi its better daw
to wipe out the plague of the swine flu
kasi meron na dito
mga less than twenty cases na raw
the last one detected was an exchange student from la salle taft
ayun, sarado bigla ang school, one week isolation
ang saya siguro ng mga students
ok naman me
kaya lang affected yung mga labada ko
ang hirap magpatuyo ng outfits
kahit pinaikot mo na sa dryer.
at ang gas
umaakyat na ulet ang presyo, peste
the last time na nagpa full tank ako
ang price was P33/ liter
ngayon P37/ liter na , hayup
para tuloy gusto ko nang bumili ng scooter na lang
kaya lang, napaka masa ng arrive wag na uy
panindigan ko na lang ang kotse kahit mahal ang gas
kahit mag P500/liter pa ang gas, go
matira matibay
tignan lang natin kung kaninong kotse
ang pakalat kalat sa kalye hmp
o sya yun lang muna
tapusin ko pa laundry
tapos ligo
then go na sa office
ingatz.
paolo”
