Pahiyas Festival
Location:Â Lucban, Quezon
Celebrated every 15th of May.
Nestled at the foot of Mt. Banahaw in Quezon province, Lukban is a sleepy town that comes alive every 15th of May to celebrate the Feast of San Isidro, the patron saint of farmers. Considered to the one of the most colorful festivals in the Philippines, the people of Lucban deck their houses with colorful “kipings” (leaf-shaped wafers made of rice flour) and various agricultural products. It is not surprising to see the facades of houses covered with bananas, coconuts, rice, and other farm produce. Other interesting features of the festival are the gigantes, a parade, and the flea market.
Do not miss to try Lucban’s longganizas (sausages) and the hardinera, a terrine of minced meat and vegetables.
Lukban is not only considered as one of the cleanest towns in the country but the people could be one of the friendliest.
(Tip: Come very early to get a good parking space as the main road leading to the town is closed at the day of the festival. Wear light clothing. It could be hot and humid in mid May.)
There is a website dedicated for the Lucban San Isidro Pahiyas Festival. Check it out at http://www.pahiyasfestival.com. There are photos and lots of information about Lucban and the Pahiyas in that website for you to read and enjoy the experience of the Pahiyas online.
