Wheatgrass
I was at the Glorietta Mall one day when I spotted this compelling ad from Oliver’s Super Sandwich that displays a large glass of verdant shake or smoothie in the middle surrounded by nutritious fruits and vegetables. The ad illustrates the ratio of nutritional benefits you get from a certain unit of wheatgrass versus what you get from some of the known fruits and vegetables where we traditionally get it from. It is claimed that wheatgrass does health wonders ranging from supplemental nutrition to curative powers such as improving your digestive system, preventing diseases like diabetes and heart disease, curing constipation, detoxification, better menopause management and promotion of your general well-being.
After back to back travels between US, Manila, Cebu, Tagaytay, Mindoro and Subic - a shot is probably what I needed. So I thought. And I kinda have an idea how a pureed wheatgrass would have tasted after seeing Andrew Zimmern’s reaction on his TV show Bizaare Food - not so favorable - for someone who is immune to funky smell and gamy taste. So I ordered mine mixed with pineapple and mango juice. Glad I did, it was just as good. The taste wasn’t any different from the usual pineapple juice that I always get. I could taste and feel the fibers but it was all from yellow fruits, nothing from the green stuff. You can also order it mixed with your favorite vegetable shakes or smoothies. It was only one shot glass mixed in for all that juicy goodness and myriad of health benefits. I’m not sure how much wonder it can do for my body in the long term, but that one shot was good enough to zing up my taste bud and freshen up my day.
The cost of one shot glass is P85. If mixed with your favorite healing or power juice, it could be around P120 to P160.
