Spa + Buffet

Quite unbelievable. How in the world would you get that zen experience and mind and body relaxation at the same time you indulge in an endless serving of food? I don’t think they go well together, personally in my opinion. What the heck. i still asked my brother to drop me off at Wensha Spa at CCP Complex in Roxas Blvd to try and test it.

The spa is open 24 hours by 7 days. The deal is, for 680 pesos - you get a one hour massage by a male or female therapist and you also get to use all facilities including of course the dining areas where you get to eat like a prisoner having his last glorious meal - all these goodies for six hours!

Wensha is undeniably oriental in design, in and out. The rooms are all huge including the locker room. The hot jacuzzi and the cold whirlpool are in the same big room surrounded by shower rooms and the steam and dry sauna rooms. When you are ready to attack the buffet table, you need to change and wear the japanese/korean inspired bath robe and shorts provided by the spa. In between the male and the female sections is the big dining room where you can have your all-you-can-eat buffet and shabu-shabu meal while watching a local TV show like ASAP or Wowowee. The shabu-shabu meal is decent - i’m quite happy with it. At the back of the dining room is a medium size swimming pool and several family size tables which are dimly lit and much cozier than than the main dining room. The same area also has overhead TV’s where each family or group can enjoy watching.

Further back are the massage rooms - also huge, each room accommodates two guests. The doors are made of glass, so transparent, you can actually see the people in the other room across the hallway. And if you are accidentally butt naked or ‘Mini me’ exposed in all it’s glory, just remember that you’ve been warned.

If i need to go to a spa, this will not be on my list of go to place. Why? The massage is so-so and customer service is not top notch. And unlike most spas, you can’t smell any hint of mint or chamomile once you step in to this place. You don’t feel any soothing effect down into your nostrils. If i want gastronomic indulgence, this will neither be in my list of go to place. Although I like that they serve more of shabu shabu over for buffet instead of other greasy smelly cuisines in a place that offers spa service at the same time.

But let’s be honest. For P680, spa + buffet is really cheap! Judging from the number of guests that flock the place, it seems that this is popular to balikbayan families or foreigners like Koreans and Chinese. This place is geared towards family recreation. There is this festive atmosphere in the air from the jacuzzi where there could be dads and kids talking loudly to each other, to the massage room and into the dining room where the nosiest is either Kris Aquino or Boy Abunda of Showbiz Ngayon Na via the boob tube. So you get the idea? Ganun kalakas ang sound ng TV.

Wensha Spa Center could be your ‘resort in the city’ as an alternative recreation to long travels to Mindoro or Boracay or even Tagaytay. It could also be a viable and cheaper alternative to expensive recreations and services you get from hotels. It is not even close to being first-class but still serves its purpose.

Give it a try!
