Tennis Anyone?
Every year that i come home for my three week vacation in the Philippines, i always look forward to getting an extra time off to hit the courts. My tennis racket is the most important staple in my luggage – as important as my laptop. And like a match, it’s always a challenge to find a court and a hitting partner. Fortunately, there is Rizal Memorial Sports Complex located at Pablo Ocampo(formerly Vito Cruz) in Malate, Manila. It has about 5 or so tennis courts, one of them is a shell court and the rest are hard courts. It is open to the public. The court fee is P150/hour and the ball boy fee is P100. And if you come here by yourself, a lot of people posing as instructors/trainors are waiting at the gate and will offer their service at P200+/hr. If you are an advance or intermediate level, let them know and make them swear that they can give you a good drill and workout. You would want to start playing as early as 6 or 7 in the morning because the temperature is a scorcher. There is no cafeteria in the compound to get snacks or buy drinks so do not forget to bring lots of water. One thing i like about playing here is the speed of the court, it seem slow than most other hard courts. That’s good news for people like me with ageing knees.
